Selank Handling Sheet

Also known as Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro, tuftsin analogue

A seven-residue, proline-rich, basic peptide derived from tuftsin. It has no residues that are especially prone to oxidation or deamidation, so standard storage practice applies.

Inferred from structure

Little compound-specific stability data is published. Guidance follows from the sequence and general peptide chemistry.

Bench card

  • No Met, Cys, Trp, Asn or Gln: chemically robust as peptides go.
  • Basic peptide (Lys, Arg); dissolves readily in water or dilute acetic acid.
  • Cationic peptides can adsorb to glass; prefer low-binding plastic for dilute solutions.
  • Store as for any research peptide: cold, dry, sealed, aliquoted.
  • Storage advice is inferred from sequence chemistry.

Handling-relevant features

FeatureWhy it matters for handling
Lys2, Arg4Net positive charge; good water solubility; adsorption to negatively charged glass at low concentration
Three prolinesRigid, protease-resistant backbone
No Met, Cys, Trp, Asn or GlnLow oxidation and deamidation risk

What it is

Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide, Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro, made by extending the immunomodulatory tetrapeptide tuftsin (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg) with Pro-Gly-Pro. Like Semax, its literature comes mainly from Russian research groups.

Stability profile

The main practical issue is not chemistry but surfaces: with a net positive charge, Selank can adsorb to glass, which carries negative surface charge. Kristensen and colleagues documented this effect for cationic peptides. Use low-binding polypropylene for dilute working solutions.

Storage

Form Recommended Notes
Sealed powder −20 °C Desiccant
Solution, days 2–8 °C Low-binding tube
Solution, longer −20 °C Single-use aliquots

Analytical notes

Expected [M+H]+ is about m/z 752.9 (average), with a prominent [M+2H]2+ near m/z 377 because of the two basic residues.
